SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Chief of Elementary Schools, the Principal Mentor serves as a mentor and coach to Principals and Assistant Principals to help improve student academic achievement. The Principal Mentor provides assistance and professional growth to identified school administrators, including training and mentoring in alignment with the Ohio Principal Standards and best practices to improve student achievement and maintain a safe, caring, and orderly learning environment.. The Principal Mentor will work closely with the District Leadership and the Chief of Schools to ensure that support for identified DPS Principals is aligned and consistent.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides opportunities for school administrators to increase their understanding of best practices in management, supervision, leadership, mentoring, and instructional coaching.
- Shares knowledge of instructional supervision and leadership using evidence-based strategies and practices, including organizational culture development, collecting, and analyzing data, demonstrating observation and diagnostic skills, writing and operationalizing SMART Goals, strategic resource management and budgeting.
- Visits school to observe instructional practice and suggest growth steps for administrators
- Assists administrators in evaluating and improving instructional processes
- Assists administrators with their understanding of required assessments and data-driven decision making
- Promotes ongoing instructional improvement that supports student achievement gains.
- Promotes and builds leadership capacity and effectiveness in current building administrators.
- Promotes the use of research-based leadership practices, behaviors, and actions.
- Supports the increase in the authentic personal and professional learning of principals and assistant principals to become effective leaders
- Perform other duties, tasks, and responsibilities as assigned.
- Assist in Monitoring district Attendance Teams
- Serve as a liaison and facilitator to support alignment of buildings and operations (transportation)
- Lead audits of arrival and departure procedures.
- Follow up with parent complaints in the DPS communication
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master degree in School Leadership or equivalent.
- Valid Ohio Principal Certification
- At least five (5) years teaching in the Dayton Public School District and five (5) years of Dayton Public School Building Administrative experience with three (3) years as Principal.
- Must be a current school principal in Dayton Public Schools
PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES/DEMANDS
- Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, kneel, stoop, and climb stairs
- Occasionally lift and/or move lightweight items up to 40 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work will be performed in a general school setting
- Work will take place during and after schools hours
- Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue
- Work may be subject to frequent interruptions
- Some assignments are subject to completion within strict timelines
- Periodic travel for meetings, professional development activities, and work assignments
