Job Title:                                             Mechanics Coordinator

Reports To:                                         Director of Transportation & Fleet Services

 

Summary

 

The Mechanics Coordinator provides oversight and leadership within the garage.  This position will supervise, evaluate, and direct work of mechanics, ensure buses pass inspection, maintain fleet records and an accurate up-to-date inventory of all parts, tools, and bulk products, engage in preventive maintenance, and monitor expenses.

 

Examples of Work

 

  • Supervise and direct the work of mechanics.
  • Evaluate mechanical problems in vehicles using diagnostic equipment.
  • Help mechanics evaluate minor mechanical problems, and inspect repairs completed.
  • Estimate time and materials required to perform major repairs.
  • Assist with analyzing engine performance and perform tune-ups as needed.
  • Ensure mechanics are performing routine vehicle maintenance and preventive care.
  • Maintain accurate, updated preventive maintenance records.
  • Help train mechanics.
  • Ensure staff operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor

immediately.

  • Operate buses and vehicles as needed.
  • Work irregular hours as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of time and materials required to perform repairs and service.
  • Oversee the part inventory room.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Five (5) years of experience performing vehicle maintenance or repairs, OR five (5) years of experience in the supervision of mechanics and an electronic inventory system.

 

Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must have an acceptable driving record, advanced knowledge of diesel and fuel engine maintenance and repair, and the ability to use diagnostic equipment to diagnose mechanical problems, operate equipment and tools (drills, grinder air-powered tools, welding torch, jack and lift ) to perform vehicle repairs, lift heavy equipment and vehicle parts, and pass required bus driver safety training and physical.
