Position: Assistant Custodian

SUMMARY
The Assistant Custodian will perform routine cleaning of school facilities including floors, walls, doors, restrooms, walkways, entrances and furniture; monitors the building for damage, participates and/or recommends preventive maintenance measures to the supervisor. The Assistant Custodian should have knowledge of methods, materials, and practices used in building cleaning and sanitization work, and the proper use and care of mops, brooms, scrubbing brushes, waxing machines, and related equipment and a working knowledge of the safe efficient procedures for operating required tools of the job.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(Incumbent performs a majority of the following duties)
- Regular attendance is an essential function of this job.
- Follows the individual cleaning schedule as outlined by the head custodian, Director of Operations, or Designee.
- Performs general cleaning (trash, restrooms, dust mop, vacuuming, mopping, high dusting, sinks, wall washing)
- Performs window cleaning.
- Moves furniture.
- Strips, scrubs, and waxes floors.
- Stocks restrooms and custodial inventory.
- Secure building.
- Maintains grounds (shovels snow, picks up paper, empties trash in outside bins).
- Report all safety and maintenance concerns to supervisors as identified.
- Know and comply with all relevant policies.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding information related to students and their families.
- Be an appropriate role model for students in every way possible.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen or have the legal right to work in the U.S
- Valid Driver’s License or State Identification Card.
Verifications
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Knowledge & Experience
- Knowledge of safety procedures—chemical handling, tornado/fire drills.
- Knowledge of standard cleaning equipment operation.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with others.
- Ability to effectively communicate and follow instructions.
PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES/DEMANDS
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and is occasionally required to walk, stand, lift/carry, push/pull, balance, reach/handle objects, and perform repetitive motions. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- This position has potential for exposure to temperature extremes, risks and/or hazards, noises or vibrations, irate parents or disruptive students. Occasionally required to work outside of regular scheduled hours or for weekend activities. Work subject to frequent interruptions or distractions.
