Position: Intervention Specialist

SUMMARY
Plan, implement, evaluate, and manage curriculum and instructional strategies to address the individual needs of special education students. Present appropriate learning experiences consistent with the school district’s mission and mandated requirements. Provide personalized guidance and support to help students realize their intellectual, social and vocational potentials. Actively involve parents and colleagues as learning partners.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Demonstrate knowledge of all policies, rules, and regulations of the Dayton Board of Education and the Ohio Department of Education/Special Education Division. Comply with all Federal mandates as they apply to students with disabilities.
- Provide specially-designed instruction to assigned students.
- Work collaboratively with staff and service providers for students on their caseload to develop individualized, objective, and measurable goals and objectives for students individualized education programs.
- Work collaboratively with general education teachers to determine appropriate accommodations and interventions for students for their individualized education program
- Work collaboratively with teachers and service providers to complete IEP Progress Reports for those students on his/her caseload
- Use student data from formative and summative assessments to plan instructional delivery.
- Participate in teacher-based teams to analyze data and adapt instruction to impact student learning.
- Utilize reflective practices to improve instructional approaches and adapt to changes in learning methods.
- Implement the District’s classroom management strategies and program.
- Establish and maintain positive rapport with students, parents, and other staff.
- Attend Staff meetings and professional development activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution
- Valid Ohio teaching license for the appropriate content area and grade level
- Experience working in urban education
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction and intervention strategies
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and/or child development principles
- Ability and willingness to utilize technology in the enhancement of student learning
PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES/DEMANDS
- Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, kneel, stoop, and climb stairs
- Occasionally lift and/or move lightweight items up to 40 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work is performed in a classroom setting
- Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue
- Work may be subject to frequent interruptions
- Some assignments are subject to completion within strict timelines
- Periodic travel for meetings, professional development activities, and work assignments
